Christine Smith

Education: Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education from West Virginia Wesleyan College. Studied abroad at the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies in Oxford, England, where I conducted research in the fields of English Renaissance literature, art, and theology. Currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Humanities through California State University, Dominguez Hills.
Philosophy on Education: I believe that all students have unique gifts and abilities that should be recognized and encouraged with honor, understanding, and patience, with the goal that their education lead to responsible citizenship and even to "virtuous action," as the English poet Sir Philip Sidney once postulated. A teacher can play a crucial role in guiding a student's future decisions; therefore, "one size" truly does not "fit all" regarding expectations for achievement and ability. Every student possesses his or her own exceptional potential that, when developed through determination, learning, and self-discipline, can come to healthy fruition in adulthood.
About myself: I am a foster parent

Philosophy on Education: I believe all students have great potential and the capability to learn and succeed. As a teacher, I try to instill a thought process to all students that will allow them to become successful lifelong learners.
About myself: At SusQ-Cyber's Family Fun Night at Sunbury's Strike Zone Bowling Alley, I had the highest bowling score of any student or staff member!

Social Studies Department

Elizabeth Shotwell

Education: B.S.Ed-Comprehensive Social Studies, Bloomsburg University. B.A-History, Bloomsburg University. M.Ed-Alternative Education, Lock Haven University
PDE Certifications. STAR Discovery Educator. Nationally Selected Library of Congress Teachers Institute Participant.
Philosophy on Education: My philosophy on education has changed dramatically over the past six years. When I wrote my first “philosophy on education”, I was getting ready to graduate from my undergraduate program in education. My first philosophy was very well-written, very informative, and very impersonal. Over the past six years, as I have grown as an educator here at SusQ-Cyber Charter School and became a parent myself, my philosophy of education is now quite simple. I believe that every child deserves a student-centered education. I believe that, as an educator, my role is to give my students every tool and skill that they need to be successful in the world beyond high school. Education is so much more than just names and dates. Rather, education is about becoming a lifelong learner and a productive, contributing member of society.
About myself: Social studies was my least favorite subject in high school! I never would have imagined being a social studies teacher. In college, I was blessed with an amazing history professor during the first semester of my freshman year and I was hooked! I switched majors and ended up earning degrees in history and education.

Science Department

Robyn Barrett

Education: B.S. in Biology and Environmental Science. M.A. in Teaching.
Philosophy on Education: Education is a never ending pursuit. A good high school eduction will expose students to a variety of subjects and topics and equip them with numerous skills for learning which will enable them to continue to become well-rounded, well-educated, well-prepared citizens of the planet.
About myself: I love road trips and traveling! One of the things on my checklist is to visit and stay in each of the fifty states. 27 down, 23 to go!
